Exercising our Right to Vote

Four years ago, we were deep in the midst of a pandemic and facing a monumental election. I joined letter writing campaigns to get out the vote, but I also felt compelled to make art about the big feelings and ideas I wanted to communicate. Thankfully, when I pitched the idea to a handful of awesome women I know, they agreed to help. (My wonderful Dad also helped by composing music.)

In 2020, we were also celebrating the centennial of the 19th Amendment which afforded women the right to vote. We created three short films focusing on three different women who were part of the women’s suffrage movement. (Sadly, even after the 19th Amendment passed only one of the women we featured actually gained the right to vote.)

I encourage you to watch these short films if you haven’t already. You’ll learn some history, hear some great music, and enjoy some wonderful circus! Women of America

As we approach the upcoming election, it once again feels crucial…maybe even more so than in 2020. Is that possible? Our country has seen a lot of change in the last 104 years. There has been progress: the Voting Rights Act, Roe v Wade, Marriage Equality Act, etc. And there has been regression.

But we still have the right to vote. Let’s exercise our right! VOTE!
