Casting

Casting notice!

People’s Circus Theatre is casting 1-2 roles for our upcoming production of The Nightingale, premiering in June at the Children’s Creativity Museum in San Francisco.

The Show - Based on the fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen, The Nightingale is a new circus theatre show that integrates circus, dance, and theatrical dialogue. This is an ensemble based show and all performers act and do a variety of circus skills.

The Roles - We are casting one or two roles. The roles are Assistants to the Emperor. They are mostly comedic characters, but the performer must also be able to play the gravitas of certain moments.

  • Assistant #2: Must be comfortable delivering dialogue. Necessary circus skills include: tumbling, hoop-diving, and basing partner acrobatics.

  • Assistant #3: Does not speak, but does physical acting. Necessary circus skills include: strong object manipulation skill and basing partner acrobatics.

The Schedule - Encouraged to begin training with PCT asap.  Official training for the show begins in March. Rehearsals will take place in April and May (about 15 hours/week) on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the day and TBD Saturday or Sunday. Tech is the final week of May/first week of June. Performances run weekends in June from June 6-22.

Compensation - Rehearsals and performances are paid. Exact compensation is based on experience.

How to Apply - We are ONLY seeking performers local to the Bay Area. If you have submitted a form to PCT in the past, please send us an email at casting@peoplescircustheatre.org with your interest. If you have not submitted a form to our casting, please fill out our casting form at peoplescircustheatre.org/casting AND send us an email with your interest. We are hoping to cast these roles soon!

Our productions are ensemble-based so we are looking for artists who are highly creative and collaborative.  Our shows combine circus, theatre, music, and dance; multi-disciplinary performers who are open to learning new skills are a good fit.  We are currently casting performers who live in the Bay Area. Our shows feature a combination of professional artists, emerging artists, and exceptional youth.
