WHO WE ARE

People’s Circus Theatre was launched in September of 2023 in order to create circus theatre productions in the style pioneered by founder and Artistic Director, Felicity Hesed.

People’s Circus Theatre is based in San Francisco and is a resident company at the San Francisco Circus Center.

This director is a visionary, dancing on the edge of both theatre and circus.

FELICITY HESED

Founder and Artistic Director

Felicity is a creator, director, and producer who specializes in productions that integrate circus and theatre. Recently Felicity returned from directing a developmental residency at ArtYard in Frenchtown, NJ of a new circus play called {IN}TANGIBLE by New York playwright Brianna Kalisch.

Over the last two years, Felicity was the Artistic Director at the San Francisco Circus Center where she oversaw the production of over fifteen productions ranging from intimate cabarets to ensemble-based circus theatre to large scale spectacles.  Felicity’s circus theatre adaption of The Secret Garden which premiered at Circus Center in 2022 and was remounted in 2023 at the Children’s Creativity Museum exemplifies Felicity’s unique fusion of circus and theatre.

Prior to the Pandemic, Felicity’s solo show Cara Vita: A Clown Concerto toured  San Francisco, the East Coast, and London.  During the Pandemic, Felicity directed innovative projects including A Midsummer Night’s Dream (a sing-along, dance-along circus web series), Women of America (official selection for the Circus International Film Festival 2021), and Circus Pop Ups! (pop up events incorporating live circus and music which also won the Audience Choice Award in the Circus International Film Festival 2022).

Felicity’s additional performance and directing credits can be found at felicityhesed.com.
