The Time is Now

I first got the idea to create a circus theater adaptation of The Nightingale about 10 years ago. Someone gave us a little storybook of The Nightingale when my oldest son was very small. I used to read it to him and imagine how I would stage it. A decade later, I’m fully immersed in directing and producing The Nightingale, PCT’s biggest show yet, and my once little boy is a teen performer in it.

I have lots of ideas for shows all the time. I never really know which ones will actually come to life. Much like each person born into the world, there’s an element of chance. Being at the right place at the right time.

My concept for The Nightingale has evolved over this decade reflecting our changing world and my experience of it. As a company, we began to develop the concept together last September during our work-in-progress. Every person who was part of that WIP, left their stamp on it. Our ensemble has continued to train together since then, developing skills as individuals and as a group. We have been fortunate to welcome some new people to the project this Spring as performers, designers, and choreographers. They bring their world views and life experiences, further enriching this project that we are growing as a group.

If I had waited another 10 years to make The Nightingale, it would surely be a different show. But the time is now. We hope you will come see our creation, born of a little chance, a lot of hard work, and an infinite amount of love.
